Description

Deliciously soft and sweet Apple Dumplings feature tender Granny Smith apple slices wrapped in buttery crescent rolls, baked to golden perfection, and topped with a sweet cinnamon sugar glaze infused with Mountain Dew soda. Perfect served warm with a scoop of ice cream for a comforting dessert.

Ingredients

Scale

Apples

  • 2 Granny Smith apples

Dumplings

  • 2 (8 ounce) cans crescent rolls

Syrup & Topping

  • 1 cup butter, melted
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Cinnamon, to taste
  • 1 (12 ounce) can Mountain Dew soda (or Sprite)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Oven and Pan: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and lightly spray two 9×13 inch baking dishes with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare Apples: Peel and core the Granny Smith apples, then cut each apple into 8 evenly sized slices to create manageable pieces for wrapping.
  3. Wrap Apple Slices: Take each apple slice and carefully roll it inside a crescent roll piece, ensuring it’s fully wrapped, then place each wrapped apple slice evenly spaced in the prepared baking dishes.
  4. Make Butter Mixture: In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, sugar, and vanilla extract, stirring until the sugar is fully incorporated and the mixture is smooth.
  5. Pour Mixture and Soda: Pour the butter-sugar-vanilla mixture evenly over the apple dumplings. Then, pour the Mountain Dew soda carefully around the edges of the pan to create a sweet, fizzy syrup during baking.
  6. Add Cinnamon: Sprinkle cinnamon generously over the top of the dumplings to enhance warmth and spice.
  7. Bake Dumplings: Place the baking dishes in the oven and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the crescent rolls are golden brown and the apples are tender.
  8. Serve: Remove from oven and serve warm, ideally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a spoonful of the pan sauce drizzled on top for added indulgence.

Notes

  • You can substitute Mountain Dew with Sprite or a lemon-lime soda if preferred.
  • For a richer flavor, try adding a sprinkle of nutmeg along with the cinnamon.
  • These dumplings are best served warm, so enjoy immediately after baking.
  • To make peeling and coring easier, use a trusty apple corer and peeler.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; reheat gently before serving.
