Description

This Baked Brie recipe offers a simple, elegant, and delicious way to enjoy melted brie cheese perfect for entertaining or a cozy snack. Featuring a creamy, gooey center topped with optional honey and thyme, paired with crostini or crackers, it’s a quick and impressive appetizer suitable for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 250500g / 8 – 16 oz round brie or camembert
  • 2 tbsp honey or maple syrup (optional)
  • 1 thyme sprig (optional)

For Serving

  • Crostini or other sturdy crackers
  • 1 bunch purple grapes (or green, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 180°C/350°F, suitable for all oven types, preparing it for the brie to bake perfectly.
  2. Prepare Brie: Unwrap the brie and place it in a small, shallow ovenproof dish slightly larger than the brie. Alternatively, you may place it on crumbled baking or parchment paper for easier transfer later.
  3. Bake Brie: Bake in the oven for 15 to 20 minutes for a 250g (8oz) brie, or 25 minutes for a 500g (1lb) brie. Check doneness by gently pressing the center — it should feel very soft and almost collapse under pressure.
  4. Microwave Alternative: If preferred, microwave on high for 2 minutes in 30-second increments, until the brie is melted and soft.
  5. Transfer Carefully: Carefully move the baked brie to a serving plate or board. If baked on paper, transfer the paper for support as the cheese is delicate and wobbly.
  6. Garnish: Drizzle with honey or maple syrup and top with a fresh sprig of thyme if desired.
  7. Serve: Serve immediately with crostini or crackers alongside for scooping. Provide a knife to cut through the rind and a cheese or pate knife for scooping melted cheese onto crackers or crostini.

Notes

  • Use economical brie or camembert for baking to balance flavor and cost; premium brie is best served unaltered.
  • A shallow, ovenproof dish slightly larger than the brie helps contain the cheese and prevent mess while serving.
  • Alternative baking surfaces include a shallow bowl, curved ovenproof plate, or crumpled parchment paper for easier transfer.
  • Check readiness by sensing softness at the center or inserting a skewer that should come out coated in melted cheese.
  • A 250g brie provides 6 to 10 servings, as melted brie is rich and scooped in smaller amounts.
  • Honey or maple syrup topping is optional and can be selected based on flavor preference or availability.
  • Melted brie remains gooey for 10 to 15 minutes depending on the baking surface.
  • Leftovers can be reheated quickly in the microwave or enjoyed cold; sweet syrup mixed with hardened cheese enhances flavor.
