Steak Bites and Seasoning
- 1 1/4 pound sirloin steak, cut into 1-inch pieces
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon chopped fresh thyme
- 1 teaspoon chopped fresh rosemary
- 1 teaspoon chopped fresh oregano
- Salt to taste
- Ground black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Cook the potatoes: Heat a large cast iron skillet over medium-high heat and add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Add the sliced Yukon gold potatoes, garlic powder, salt, and ground black pepper. Cook for about 5 minutes before stirring, then continue cooking for 10-15 minutes more, stirring occasionally, until the potatoes are fork tender. Remove the potatoes from the skillet and set aside on a plate.
- Sear the steak bites: Increase the heat to high. Add the sirloin steak pieces to the skillet and season with salt and ground black pepper. Let the steak sear undisturbed for about a minute, then stir and continue cooking until the steak bites are golden brown, approximately 4-5 minutes total.
- Add butter, garlic, and herbs: Add the unsalted butter, minced garlic, fresh thyme, rosemary, and oregano to the skillet along with the cooked potatoes. Stir and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
- Serve: Remove from heat and serve immediately while hot for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- Use a cast iron skillet for ideal searing and even cooking.
- Make sure to cut potatoes into uniform pieces for even doneness.
- Adjust seasoning according to taste, especially salt and pepper.
- Fresh herbs significantly enhance the flavor; avoid dried herbs for this recipe.
- Resting the steak bites briefly after cooking can make them more tender.
