- ½ cup walnuts
- 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
- 1½ tablespoons pomegranate molasses*
- 1 garlic clove
- 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon Aleppo pepper or ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
- ½ teaspoon ground cumin
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- Fresh mint, for garnish
- Pita bread, for serving
Instructions
- Combine Ingredients: In a food processor, add the roasted red peppers, bread crumbs, walnuts, olive oil, pomegranate molasses, garlic clove, lemon juice, Aleppo pepper (or red pepper flakes), ground cumin, and freshly ground black pepper. Pulse the mixture until it reaches a creamy consistency, scraping down the sides as needed to ensure even blending.
- Season and Adjust: Taste the dip and adjust the seasoning as desired, adding extra salt, pepper, or lemon juice if necessary to balance the flavors.
- Garnish and Serve: Transfer the Muhammara to a serving bowl, garnish with fresh mint leaves, and serve alongside warm pita bread or your preferred accompaniments.
Notes
- If you don’t have pomegranate molasses, substitute with 2 teaspoons of maple syrup and add an additional 2 teaspoons of lemon juice to maintain the sweet and tangy balance.
- Roasting the red bell peppers at home by charring them over an open flame or in the oven enhances the smoky flavor of the dip.
- This dip can be made ahead and refrigerated for up to 3 days, allowing the flavors to meld beautifully.
- For a smoother texture, peel the walnuts before blending.
