Ingredients
Scale
For the Cake
- 1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ Devil’s Food Cake Mix
- Water, oil, and eggs called for on cake mix box
For the Frosting and Decorations
- 1 tub (16 oz) Betty Crocker™ Rich & Creamy Chocolate Frosting
- 4 PEEPS® brand marshmallow ghosts
- 4 PEEPS® brand marshmallow tombstones
- 1 cup chocolate cookie crumbs (about 10 cookies)
Instructions
- Prepare the Cake Batter: Preheat your oven to 350°F. Grease a 13×9-inch baking pan with cooking spray. In a mixing bowl, combine the devil’s food cake mix with the required amounts of water, oil, and eggs according to the cake mix box instructions. Mix until smooth.
- Bake the Cake: Pour the batter evenly into the prepared 13×9-inch pan. Place it in the preheated oven and bake as directed on the cake mix box, usually until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, around 30-35 minutes. Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool completely in the pan on a cooling rack, which takes about 1 hour.
- Frost the Cake: Once the cake is fully cooled, spread the entire tub of Betty Crocker Rich & Creamy Chocolate Frosting evenly over the top of the cake using a spatula or butter knife.
- Decorate with Marshmallows and Crumbs: Arrange the PEEPS marshmallow ghosts and tombstones around the edges of the cake to create a spooky graveyard effect. Finally, sprinkle the chocolate cookie crumbs over the top of the frosting to mimic dirt, completing the graveyard look.
- Serve: Cut the cake into 5 rows by 4 rows, making 20 squares. Serve and enjoy the spooky, delicious treat!
Notes
- Ensure the cake is completely cooled before frosting to prevent the frosting from melting.
- Chocolate cookie crumbs can be made by crushing any chocolate sandwich cookies like Oreos.
- For added spookiness, consider adding plastic skeleton or edible spider topper decorations.
- Store leftover cake covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- You can substitute the devil’s food cake mix with homemade chocolate cake if desired.
