Description

This Sweet and Spicy Chex Mix is a deliciously addictive snack combining crunchy Chex cereals, pretzels, nuts, and bagel chips coated in a flavorful buttery, honey, and spice mixture. Perfect for parties, road trips, or anytime snacking, this mix is baked to a crispy finish that delights with sweet, salty, and spicy notes.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Snack Mix

  • 9 cups Chex cereal (a mix of rice, corn, and wheat)
  • 1 cup mini pretzel twists
  • 1 cup mini pretzel rods
  • 1 cup mini bread sticks
  • 2 cups nuts (a mix of almonds, whole cashews, and pistachios)
  • 1 cup bagel chips (rye or plain)

Sweet & Spicy Sauce For Seasoning

  • ¾ cup butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C) to prepare for slow baking the snack mix to crispy perfection.
  2. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, add all three types of Chex cereal, mini pretzel twists, mini pretzel rods, mini bread sticks, bagel chips, and nuts. Stir to combine evenly.
  3. Make the Seasoning Sauce: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter. Once melted, add Worcestershire sauce, honey, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, cayenne pepper, and chili powder to the butter. Whisk thoroughly until all ingredients are well combined.
  4. Mix Seasoning with Dry Ingredients: Pour the seasoning sauce over the dry snack mix and use a spatula to gently but thoroughly coat all the dry ingredients evenly with the sauce.
  5. Prepare for Baking: Spread the coated mixture evenly onto a large baking tray in a single layer to ensure even crisping during baking.
  6. Bake: Place the tray in the preheated oven and bake for about 1 hour and 15 minutes, stirring every 20-25 minutes to promote even baking until the mixture turns uniformly crispy.
  7. Cool Down: Remove the tray from the oven and allow the snack mix to cool completely. This cooling process helps the mix to crisp up further.
  8. Serve or Store: Serve immediately for fresh snacking or store in an airtight container where it will stay fresh for up to 3 weeks.

Notes

  • Stir the mixture several times while baking to ensure even cooking and prevent burning.
  • You can customize the nuts and chips according to your preference or dietary needs.
  • Store the cooled snack mix in an airtight container to maintain crispness and freshness.
  • Adjust the cayenne and chili powder quantity if you prefer less or more spiciness.
